Remember, it's your money and as a home buyer, it's your right to know exactly what you are paying for.

When shopping for title insurance, be sure to do the following:

• Don't just ask about the premium. Determine the cost of all charges involved in advance of the closing.
• Ask the number of years the company has been in business.
• If another party is choosing the title company, ask why he or she chose a particular company.
• Ask to choose your own title company, and shop around as though hunting for a mortgage.
