Dutchess County Approves An Increase In Mortgage Tax and Sales Tax

The Dutchess County legislature voted 13-12 last night to increase the mortgage tax from 1.05 % to 1.25%. This rate goes into effect on November 1st of this year. The legislature felt that the increase was necessary to prevent a rise in the property taxes.

The legislature also approved by a vote of 15-10 to extend the sales tax increase of three quarters of one percent to 3.75% first approved in 2003 through November of 2009.
